I really hate rating an old childhood favourite with less than 5* but sadly Little Ol’ Mrs Pepperpot has not really stood the test of time. I still really enjoyed it but mainly from a nostalgic point of view it has to be said. I’d like to read it to a five year old though and get their reaction!

This isn't the first time I'm reading the stories of Teskedsgumman, but it's the first time I'm reading them for myself rather than having them being read to me. In this book, other stories are included as well - like one about abandoned toys coming to life one special night so that they can find their way to another child who will love and appreciate them, but the best stories are definitely the ones with Teskedsgumman herself. An old woman suddenly transforms into the size of a tea spoon, creating problems for her busy days and the transformation back and forth seems to come out of nowhere so that she often has something planned, errands and appointments with other people, for the day - obviously it'll be a tad difficult to say, do the laundry in her miniature size, but the old lady is so smart that she solves all of these pesky challenges and it's all quite fun reading; so that young and old can laugh at the ingenuity and mischievousness of the old woman.

Young listeners enjoyed this, but I would have preferred more Mrs. Pepperpot and less unrelated filler.

Mrs Pepperpot wakes one morning to find she has shrunk to the size of a Pepperpot! The book follows her adventures as she tries to live her life in miniature size. It is a very fun read & I remember enjoying it as a child when my Mum read it to me.

Originally published in 1959 this is sadly rather dated now. Simple folksy stories of Mrs Pepperpot who shrinks somewhat randomly and then has quaint adventures.

This was an unexpected delight! I picked it up from a booksale for the title and cover, knowing nothing of Mrs Pepperpot or Alf Prøysen. The voice was such fun to read, the characters and their challenges were interesting, the wit was humorous, and it was a quick read in one sitting. The full title of this version of the book is "Little Old Mrs Pepperpot and other stories". It was translated by Marianne Helweg, illustrated by Björn Berg, and published by Puffin in 1961 (then reprinted multiple times). The stories in this version came from two bo9oks, Little Old Mrs Pepperpot and Mrs Pepperpot Again, first published in England by Hutchinson 1959 and 1960. There were a few (interspersed) stories that have nothing to do with Mrs Pepperpot: The mice and the Christmas tree - the family of mice who live behind the larder wall have a special Christmas adventure to see the Christmas tree lights in the drawing room. The other stories are about Mrs Pepperpot and appear in this order:
Never take no for an answer - An old woman is spinning yarn to make a new jersey for her husband and a little mouse has a lot of questions (on behalf of his ma) about where the castoffs are going.
Mr Learn-a-lot and the singing midges - Mrs Midge takes her three daughters to Mr Learn-a-lot's house to show off their singing skills (and have a good meal).
The good luck story - When a ladybird lands on little Betsy's finger, she has a hard time deciding what to wish for before it flies away.
Mr Big Toe's journey - The journey of a big toe, as told to his brother toes, as a little boy jumps in a puddle.
A birthday party in Topsy Turvy Town - The mayor is having a birthday party and his little girl has to deal with lots of issues.
Little Old Mrs Pepperpot - Mrs Pepperpot finds herself shrunk to the size of a pepperpot for the very first time and uses her wiles to get her housework done.
Mrs Pepperpot and the mechanical doll - Mrs Pepperpot promises to gift a new doll to a poor little girl named Hannah, but shrinks right when she was about to deliver it. She enlists her cat's help to make Christmas special for the little girl.
Mr Pepperpot buys macaroni - Mrs Pepperpot goes shopping with Mr Pepperpot (in his pocket) to buy macaroni.
Queen of the Crows - The crows are having a festival to choose the Queen of the Crows and Mrs Pepperpot's shrunk clothes are much desired.
Mrs Pepperpot at the bazaar - Three uppity ladies want prizes for the bazaar and turn up their noses at Mrs Pepperpot's gingerbread but, with Hannah's help, Mrs Pepperpot wows the bazaar.
Mrs Pepperpot tries to please her husband -Mr Pepperpot fancies some bilberry jam and despite shrinking and having to deal with a fox, a wolf, and a bear,, Mrs Pepperpot is determined to fetch a bucket of bilberries for him.
Mrs Pepperpot minds the baby - Mrs Pepperpot faces some challenges when she shrinks just as she's trying to take care of a baby.
Mrs Pepperpot's penny watchman - Someone is eating up Mrs Pepperpot's food, and the mice might be able to help her figure out who.
Mrs Pepperpot finds a hidden treasure - The cat wants to show Mrs Pepperpot a hidden treasure, and she learns the birds, the boys, and a dog are not as friendly when she's riding with a cat.
Mr Pepperpot - Mr Pepperpot gets a fright when he takes some kittens outside in a sack.

Miniatures always appeal, whether they're dolls, or Toy Story characters, or The Borrowers, or Ralph S Mouse. This is not my first Mrs. P. boo, but apparently it is the first in the series. The first half of this collection is episodes in her adventures, the second half of the book is other stories by the author, and charming they are. Read on openlibrary.org. I love the illustrations.

I enjoyed this book. I think the children would find the Mrs Pepperpot stories humorous as she shrinks in the majority of the stories. I liked how the reader has an insight into what adventures her character gets up to when she is the size of a pepperpot. I think some of the other stories included aren't as engaging as others. My favourite other story is about the broken toys. I think this book would be good for children who never finish books or don't seem to be able to 'get into' books or get bored of books easily, as all the stories are short. I would recommend this book to children.

My cutie and I just finished Mrs. Pepperpot. Such a cute book. My Madison has autism, but she is a happy, sweet girl. We picked this book out in a used book store in Scotland earlier this year. I'm attaching the picture of the bookstore here too.

Loved these as a child and loved revisiting them as an adult. A great book for those readers who need a little bit of coaxing to read something a little bigger. Lots of short stories helping engagement with an overarching theme however far fetched.

While the idea of a woman shrinking to the size of a pepperpot is exciting in itself, I don’t think the story needed the added embellishments of her voicing being powerful enough to force the sun to shine and the clouds to create rain... just my opinion..

Fun stories about a woman who randonly shrinks to a tiny size and gets up to all sorts of adventures. It does reinforce some traditional gender roles though, unsurprisingly given it's age.

Old childhood favourite - this is the first in the series and perhaps doesn't quite stand up as well to rereading as some of the later ones.

I’d not read this as a child so was good to read it as an adult through the children’s classics club I join in with. Old Mrs Pepperpot was a quirky character and got up to all sorts of escapades as she shrunk in size but I’m not sure how popular she’d be with today’s children.

This series should all be "Mrs Pepperpot xxxx and other stories" because the first half of the book (& other books in the series) are all about Mrs Pepperpot and how she copes (always practically) with her sudden propensity to shrink. The second half has little short stories, which though cute in themselves is not really what we're reading the book for. I know I gave it a '3-star', but I was close to a '4-star' and the little stories really are gorgeous - definitely a read-out-loud to littlies to share together. I'd say 5yo - 8yo. 1. If you became smaller, what would you like to do?
- If i were tiny, I would like to ride animals like a bird, a dog and a cat. i want to go for a walk with them and adventure my town from the view of animals.
- Yes, I do. i sometimes tell my mother that i go for part-time job, but actually i go out to have dinner with my friends.
this made me fun and Mrs.peperpot was so cute and funny.

This is a Norwegian book about a little old woman who frequently shrinks to the size of a pepperpot and has some strange adventures because of this. Although it may feel dates, children will enjoy the unusual adventures that Mrs. Pepperpot takes and I certainly giggled at the way she speaks to her husband in one of the stories. Not all of the stories are about her; this is more of a collection of stories about toys that come to life, arrogant potatoes (you read me right); hats and mice. It is a collection rich in imagination and child-centric in its tone.

Mrs. Pepperpot is a woman who occasionally shrinks in size. The book (written in the 1950's by a Swedish man, I believe) has an old-fashioned feel. Midway through our edition of the book, the Pepperpot stories stop abruptly and there are other little stories about various things (toys that come to life, a stuck-up potato) for the rest of the book. This was a little strange and unexpected.
